NY Times Peru Ex-President, Trailing, Links Election Foe to Cocaine Use: "In a televised debate on Saturday night, Mr. GarcĂ­a said: 'Nobody has ever charged me with consuming cocaine. A consumer of cocaine cannot be the leader of a country.'" While Toledo has a police record, Garcia has no such blemish. But when Garcia was president, the bolas of Lima were full of reports of him riding a motorcycle in the dead of night, high on cocaine off to visit his Chilean querida (with whom he had a child out of wedlock). Of course, that may have been a way of trying to explain his erratic behavior.
